Photo Hunt: Blue

20081031

I decided to take a memory trip down the lane. These pictures are taken in 2007. I 'photo hunted' for these. What could be more fun!? Take this trip with me!

My 9 years old. This was from December of 2007. He likes to draw then.

That's real snake on my daughter's hand. Eowwww!

Almost two years ago, my then 8 years old decided to do something with the loose tickets in our house.

Train ride in Six Flags over a year ago. That's my elbow and my baby's hands on the right side.

My baby then. It's amazing what difference a year can make.

Green Van Repair

20081030

Again!

Anyway, it wasn't much. I used a new mechanic and it's 65 dollars including the 45 dollars for making house call.

Green Van
$20.00 clean loose connection at crank position sensor
$45.00 Service call
-------
$65.00

That makes my repair total for Green van (1,280)

Total repair since October 2. 2008 = $2,430

I'd like to say that the last day of September, I had a Green Van repair with starter for about 600 dollars. But I am only going to worry from October.

I just wanted to leave you with a pleasant picture. My husband and kids riding Batman, The Ride. I get dizzy on this ride so I avoid it.

Got to Hold that Tongue

This baby sure loves Six Flags mister.

One day last week, I was driving to drop my daughter at her school when one driver just dove into my lane without so much as a signal or change in speed. That car almost ran into mine, and I got angry. All my kids are in my car. I tend to drive extra careful when they are.

I said a bad word. I think I said two of the really bad ones. It rhymes with cram and luck, together. I think, actually, I know I said it loudly, before I could think about it. I guess I was more angry at the close call. I wanted to take back the words, unsaid it somehow, as soon as they're out, but alas, once spoken and all that....

I apologized for saying the bad words to my children. After all, I'm trying to raise them the right way. How anger can be channelled into something positive. Ain't nothing positive about cram and luck, I tell you. While cram and luck might immediately make me feel a tad better like a pressure valve letting off steam, ultimately, it doesn't help. I asked them to not say these words ever, but if they do, please do it only in our house. I'm pretty sure they agreed.

Then a few days later, I heard my two years old saying it under his breath like he would with some Spanish words we're learning in the car. Ops!

ABC Wednesday: N

20081021

N is for Nights in Rodanthe, a movie with Richard Gere and Diane Lane. It's based on a book by Nicholas Sparks, otherwise known as the 12-hanky author. He always makes me cry. It's probably why I read his book. Sometimes, it's good to cry over a book.

Why is the picture of my mother? Because I took her to the movie this evening. There's just the two of us. We both read Nicholas Sparks, and we're also known to watch Pride and Prejudice, the BBC version, so we can oogle Colin Firth. In fact, we watch all kinds of movies with Colin Firth in it.

It was also my mother's birthday 3 days ago.

Weekend Snapshot

20081019

My husband and I went out on a date tonight. We had dinner at On The Border, a Mexican Cuisine. It's his birthday on Wednesday, and in 7 days, we're going to be married 17 years. (that's another post) We went to see a movie afterwards. He fell asleep a couple of times, but he puts his head on my lap. This is good because when he starts snoring, I can just pull his ears. When he's not snoring, he likes my hand on his head. So, we're both happy. He gets to sleep, and I get to see my movie.

My children started reading The Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. I like this book too. It's very funny. I dare you to read it and not laugh your head off. They're actually reading the sequel called Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw. I have to wait my turn because first, my son reads it, then my daughter, then my 7 y/o son with me listening to him reading it to his 4 year old brother....etc. It's all lots about patience, really. But as you can see, my daughter is far from patience. I have proof!

I don't like it when someone breaths down my neck, in the literal sense of the word, while I am reading. I cannot stand it. It's hard to enjoy my book when someone reads over my should. Well, I think I was reading Just Wicked Enough by Lorraine Heath when I started growling. I'll let you guess why. So, after a while, my daughter disappeared and came back with this. She taped it to my arm.

Here's what her note said*.

I must love reading to put up with this, really!

*It reads (in case you can't see the picture)

Sky Watch

20081017

Sometimes, I get bored and do sky watch picture like this one. This is the last of my roses which I mass murdered over the summer. I tend to water in a lunar fashion. But unlike the moon, it's not regular.

Sometimes, I do this too, because even though you see nothing but black, well, that's the sky at midnight in front of my house. I have to practically lay down on the grown put the camera up and take the picture. The right side of the picture is where the sky would have been if there was any light. Light makes the sky, you know.

But, here's one that's really sky watch, just in case you're wondering what the heck I'm up to. To me, it looks like the sky fell on that house.

So We Went

20081012

My daughter and I enjoyed our Buns and Roses Romance Tea for Literacy. I wanted to sit down with Lorraine Heath, but unfortunately, her table was marked reserved and I couldn't. I sat with Judy Christenberry. What a lovely lady she is. We talked and talked and talked.

I would dance a jig, but first, I should take a look at how much I spent....or maybe not.

70 Ticket for two
60 books
12 early lunch

Then, not tea related, but we spent anyway:
225 pair of glasses for my daughter
110 eye check up for me and daughter
?$ if I need new glasses (average price 350)
This is a picture with Diana Love. She's wrote a book with Sherrilyn Kenyon. Such a lovely lady too. We took this picture on her way out. She had a flight to catch. OMG. I have gotta jog and run more. Still showing the so many pounds overweight here. Ouch. My eyes are killing me. I'm going to make another post on this later.

Thursday Thirteen #26

20081008

Thirteen Things since last weekend:

1. I wanted to keep a diary. However, it's challenging when I'd rather be doing something else. Then, I realized that T13 is the perfect diary for things going on with my kiddies. Since this is my chronicles, maybe I should start putting down on paper what goes on.

2. Last Friday, it was a toss up whether we'd end up at the State Fair or at Six Flags. All our students have free ticket from the school. Since it's been ages since I was in a state fair, we went to that one. We load every one in the car and head on downtown.

3. The traffic was so bad, we decided to try the train.

4. Our kids were so excited about the train. The baby wanted a whole seat to himself. His favorite part is the lack of seat belt. He was giddy!

5. We overpaid. It seems like there's no way to get out money back. A day pass is 3 USD, but we thought there was a special shuttle for 5 USD. We bought 5, but the 5th ticket did not print. We bought another, and end up paying 30 dollars for the train. We should have only paid 15.

6. I was shocked! The ticket for adults is $14. It's not like it's Six Flags. That's only pure entrance fee. No rides or anything with it.

7. I was the designated money man, and after paying 28 to go in (each child's ticket is 10 bucks I didn't have to pay). The first thing my children wanted to do was buy food. Food expenses was $100.

8. We spent a long time at the first display building. We stayed around so long, my husband got cranky for a bit.

9. It's difficult to heard 5 children who likes different things, even if those things happen to be in the same building.

10. It was a great time, and we got home close to midnight.

11. We took it easy on Sunday, and watched re-runs of The Simpsons.

12. My husband took the kids, except the baby, to synagogue for Yom Kippur service. They walked home and pass out almost immediately. It's a three mile walk.

13. The baby and I spent quality time sitting on a couch with a book. When that got old, he grabbed a Nintendo with a Brain Challenge game, and I read THE SPELLMAN FILES by Lisa Lutz. He asked me every time I laughed out loud with, "Mommy, are you alright?"

Homework

Every day, at least from Monday to Thursday, I do homework with my kids. I noticed that right about the time I have enough of homework, they're bored too. It makes me wonder why school gave kids homework. Isn't 7 hours in school enough time to learn what they need to learn?

I noticed that my kids homework would last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Sometimes more, especially for my child who's in Talented and Gifted Program. Homework has been around since school was invented I guess, but it seems more prevalent nowwadays. What good does homework does?

Presents! Gaining Weight

20081007

My mother just stopped by and gave me a short pants I've been admiring the day before. How cool is that? I'm going to wear it to pick my kids in school. I haven't worn shorts in ages because of the 40 pounds weight gain. Truly. I feel porcine.

I'm slowly getting back into jogging. I can't run right away because first I have to build stamina. But last Saturday, I jogged/ran/brisk-walked for 3 miles with my two kids. They were riding their bike, and I was on my foot. It was fun. I can feel the difference already. I'm hardly hungry anymore.

I believe that I stayed 85 pounds for 5 years when I arrive here because I wasn't eating anything beyond getting rid of hunger pangs. What I meant was, I mainly gain weight by eating my way throughout the day while I am pregnant. Pregnancy unlocks the food warrior in me. While most everyone gains 12-25 pounds during the whole pregnancy, I'll gain that on the first 3 months. No wonder I'm big.

So, in summary:

Saturday (10-4-08): 3.0 miles
Monday (10-06-08) : 3.5 miles with my stroller.

weight: 144 pounds, even thought I didn't plan to weigh myself for ages yet.
Let's just see if I can keep that up. I started my punctuation mark yesterday, so no jogging today.

Ruby Tuesday at the State Fair

Look at that lovely smile. This was after the light show. My baby loves it, but it was too loud for him, so we finished watching standing a way back from the crowd.
There he goes...you see his little back as he disappear around the corner.

Thank you for joining Emerald Sundays with me.

This picture could double as "I Spy". Can you spy my runaway child in this picture? I like this park when we visited it because it wasn't crowded. I can let my child walk several paces away and still feel secure because there's hardly anyone there. Although what's normal for me is hovering over my child. I just don't want to misplace one.

Repair Expenses

20081003

Part of the parcel of owning used vehicle is the repair that I have to pay. I don't mind. It just seem like we're forking out so much money these past few weeks for repair. I guess I was scared of finding out the bottom line, I didn't document how much we've spent exactly. I am pretty sure that it's upwards of 5K. It's not that bad. We have half a dozen vehicle.

So, in the interest of keeping score for me. So starting right now, I will see how bad it is...maybe I should just do away with the lot and buy myself three new vehicles.

Green Van
alternator = 440 USD
water pump = 275 USD
grand total = 715 USD

Baby, Oh Baby

20081002

My youngest is the only company I have on daytime while all my children are in school. I noticed that he hardly leaves my side. If he wanted to play in the living room, he will sit in the living room couch an arms length away. If he goes to the kitchen, then he grabs me by the hand so we can go together.

I like going out to see movies with my husband. It's our dating thing. We go out about twice a week, sometimes more. I get a chance to dress up and sit in the dark, holding hands with him. However, I feel this horrible guilt in my gut when we leave. My baby cries. My mother assures me that he never cries for long, but still, it's hard when I can hear him crying through the door as we walk to the car.

It must be tough being the youngest sometimes.
