Flowers In Bloom

20080430

I finally have a blooming plant. Usually, after I planted my garden, the plants would slowly but surely die one by one. Sometimes, they'd die all at once. So you can just imagine my glee when I saw this rose blooming. And it just keeps blooming!

This one is actually about 4 flowers blooming all at once. It started with just one...

Puppies

20080426

These are the new puppies we adopted. My children really loved them. They're mixture of Lab or Retriever, I'm not really sure. All I know is they're very cuddly and they poop and pee every where!

A Family Affair

20080425

There's my MIL and an overweight "I" with my kids. This was the Sunday we were late going to Six Flags. We had 30 minutes before closing time. I manage to catch the last swing boat ride aka The Conquistador.

There's my baby brother on the left in maroon shirt, and my BIL in the middle (tall man middle), and my children.

My 6 years old with orange popsicle. He loves the log flume ride and could ride it all day.

Co-Sleeping Might Mean Obesity

20080423

I stumbled into this study about co-sleeping. It basically says:

  • Infants who sleep with their parents get less sleep
  • Less sleep means high obesity risk exacerbated by TV watching
  • Children with less sleep are more likely to become aggressive and depressed later on.
  • In another study of 2,076 children, psychologist Alice Gregory at the University of London followed participants for 14 years, starting when the kids were between 4 and 16 years old. She found that those who slept "less than others" — roughly fewer than 10 hours a night — according to their parents, were more likely than their peers to self-report high levels of anxiety, depression and aggression later, between the ages of 18 and 32.

I'm not really sure I agree with this study. I mean, this one study might have this result, but I think parents shouldn't be so quick about rejecting co-sleeping. I have not done research, but out of my 5 children, all sleeping with me until they're almost 3, none are obese yet.

It's true the oldest is only 10, but I don't think this study is necessarily true. Maybe the researchers have not considered all the factors that forms a children's behavior. I'm thinking, did Jeffrey Dummer get enough sleep when he was a child? And if he didn't, would he not be the way he is if he got more sleep?

While it's true that sleep is important, I don't think we can hang things like aggression and depression for the lack of it.

Yummy-licious Men I've Seen Lately

20080419

I saw him in The Princess Diaries. Frankly, I think Anne Hathaway should have gone for Callum Blue. He's cuter than

Chris Pine, although he did grow on me towards the end.

I saw Smart People with Dennis Quaid. Dennis really aged well. When he combs his hair, he's still hot! Thomas Haden Church just about steal your heart when his adopted niece fell in love with him. You have to see the movie just to see him squirm! I didn't remember at all that he's the sand man from Spider Man 3. He's cute, isn't he?

I must mention Matthew Fox from Vantage Point. Hot! Plus he's on Speed Racer. I have got to see it! Ugh. Enough with the exclammation point already, but you get my point? He's uber cute.

Did you see Hitman? I just love the quiet and capable kind of guy. It's how I got hooked on Jason Statham. From that first Transporter movie. Whew. So hot!

So, who's on your hot list recently?

Never Say Never

I have been incredulous at my good fortune these last few days. I usually never win anything at contest. Never! So, you can imagine my surprise when I got two free books from Karen of Write from Karen and Ann Aguirre. I was on cloud 9. The only cloud in my horizon was the taxes. I left it at the very last minute, and it kept me from diving right into the book.

Of course, along with the taxes are the laundry that multiplies like bunnies, the food that needing cooking and baking, the cleaning that never ends. Imagine cooking for 7 people - one is allergic to many things and can only meat mostly meat(wheat, eggs, soy, most vegetables, milk, and milk products even trace amounts, etc), one is vegetarian and wouldn't eat meat, another one just plain picky...now imagine having to do that at least twice a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Now imagine those same people done with their meal, and didn't help in the kitchen with the dishes. Imagine those same people changing their clothes, a lot. Those same people tracking dirt all over my house. Imagine 5 of those people needing a driver to their school, school events, parties, karate classes, piano lessons, voice lessons, drawing/painting lessons, swimming lessons...

I draw the line at Boy scouting. I don't think I have energy left for selling cookies or for weekly meetings. The amazing thing is how I manage to keep my fat when I am practically a whirling dervish most of the time. Now, I have to fit in my personal trainer somewhere in those schedule.

Did I mention that I also ran a business? That I do my family's finances? That budgeting is a headache because I lack self-control when shopping, and practically spineless about saying no to buying the second box van in 3 week period? Yeah.

Anyway, I wasn't talking about that. I'm actually talking about my good fortune about books. Karen sent me the newest Sophie Kinsella's Remember Me? Will tell you more later, and Ann sent me Meredith Duran's Duke of Shadows.

Oh, The Things You Could Do with Photo Cards

20080415

Ever since the advent of digital camera, I haven't printed my pictures very much. IT means that my relatives across the ocean haven't seen my children unless they're plugged to the Internet. Not all of my relatives are computer savvy. In fact, I am not even sure some of them know what a computer is exactly.

Lately though, I noticed that I can print my digital photos. Yeah, what rock have I been hiding huh? Not really sure, but I just didn't pay attention. Now that there's Photo Cards, the sky's the limit literally. There are millions of photo cards designs available. I am absolutely thrilled!

I'm a little creative-challenged when it comes to sending out thank you cards after a birthday party. This is one of the reasons why I'm grateful there's photo cards. I can print images from the party and send out thank you cards. It's personalized, and it's thoughtful, and it makes me look like I'm creative.

Take note: You can write whatever you want on the card's front and inside. This is especially important for birth announcement or a specialized birthday card. I'd be able to brag my child's accomplishment and at the same time invite people to celebrate her birthday. My child will feel special and her relatives and friends will know how she does in school and extra-curricular activities. This photo cards can be used to replace those holidays letters. They're so hard to write with long blank pages, but you can write in photo cards succinct messages in the font style you choose. The choices are almost limitless.

It's my sunflower. It was a seed a few days ago. This is supposed to be one of those 12-inch flower. Freaky big! Have you seen the likes?

I must confess that I find big sunflowers a little scary. But I can't resist planting some of them in my front yard. We'll see if the flower grow or die before they can get freaky.

My Nephew

20080404

We got season ticket to Six Flags Over Texas this year. After we've bought all the tickets, we've paid for 9 season tickets. This is my nephew. It's hard to take his picture because he's always on the run. He's 7, but he's quite tall, he could pass for ten. He's my Lil Sis's baby. He loves riding the Batman ride. I guess I like it too. It's different and not bumpy. As smooth as the ride is, I can only do it 3 times, or risk taking someone's eye out with my vomit.
