The Learner's Creed - Thursday Thirteen 3rd Edition

20070829

My son is learning this poem in school right now. As I was checking to see if he had memorized it, I realized it would make a good T13 entry. I like this poem. I have forgotten how I like poems in this busy business called life with five children and a husband.

  1. I BELIEVE IN MYSELF

  2. AND MY ABILITY

  3. TO DO MY BEST FOR THIS DAY.

  4. FOR THIS DAY WILL NOT COME ANY MORE.

  5. I WILL THINK.

  6. I WILL LISTEN

  7. I WILL READ

  8. I WILL WRITE.

  9. I WILL DO ALL THESE THINGS

  10. WITH ONE PURPOSE IN MIND:

  11. TO DO MY BEST,

  12. AND NOT TO WASTE THIS DAY,

  13. FOR THIS DAY WILL NOT COME ANY MORE.

Ooh, I love it! I think I'm going to teach it to my kids. We talk a lot about GQ -- which stands for GOAL (the gifted program) Quality, except I've changed it to be Great Quality. Why do only the gifted kids get encouraged to do their best???

Wow. I should have used that posted that poem on the wall of my 3rd grade classroom when I was teaching. Powerful.
Yes, I was born in the seventies...I'm glad you liked the same music!
